The Southwest District represents 15 chapters and 15 student chapters with nearly 4,000 members and encompasses central and southern California, southern Nevada, Arizona, and 3 chapters in Northwestern Mexico. The District serves two basic functions; it provides a forum for the Chapters to network and share information and acts as a communication conduit between the Chapters and the Association. The District leadership is made up of all volunteers appointed by the District VP (also a volunteer), who is nominated by the Chapter presidents and elected by the district members to a one-year term (although many serve for two consecutive terms). The District leadership conducts three District meetings annually, carries out District functions, e.g., the Milt Cook Award process, facilitates District VP nominations, coordinate the Donald W. Fogarty student paper competition, manage District funds, provide chapter volunteer leaders with training, etc. Perhaps, most importantly, the district acts as an information and referral source for the Chapter Presidents and volunteers within the District.
